Study--Cold In Stone † Warm In Hearts '
[23:36] Father, thank you for your awesome
love....Thank you that we can come together in this way
to fellowship, and study your Word
[23:36] yes lord
[23:36] bless Cronus Father, as he educates
us.... [23:36] yes father
[23:36] open our hearts to get from the study
what you want each of us to learn
[23:36] yes lord
[23:37] please bring all of those here who need
to hear tonight's study
[23:37] yes lord
[23:37] Father, continue to increase our
appetite for things that inspire your
presence
[23:38] yes
[23:38] We love you Lord, and just want to
learn and grow in you, thank you that we can do that as
we study together [23:38] yes lord
[23:39] in your sweet name, Jesus, we pray,
[23:39] AMEN
[23:39] amen
[23:39] amen
[23:39] amen
[23:40] Tonight we are going to talk about
the relationship between God and mankind and how it
relates to our lives in today's society
[23:41] For us to live the way the Lord
wants us to live we must know what He wants us to do.
[23:43] To do this we have been given
examples and His words to give us guidance both in the
old and the new testament [23:43] One can
not get the full picture by just using the new or old
testaments
[23:43] It takes both to make the whole
[23:44] in seeing what God is trying to
teach us [23:44] Now the main thing that
all is built upon is the 10 commandments
[23:45] these statements from God to us
our what God expects from us all
[23:45] Today many say the 10 commandments
are out dated [23:45] and of no use to us
today [23:45] due to Jesus
[23:45] but this is a lie from Satan to
try and sidetrack all from God
[23:46] the salvation we have through
Jesus does in no way cancel the Commandments
[23:46] Jesus is the fulfillment of all
and the mediator for us
[23:47] it is only through Jesus that we
have righteousness and can come close to what is expected
of us [23:48] Let us look at these laws
and see how they show the difference in the relationship
between God and man [23:48] God wrote the
10 commandments in cold hard stone [23:48]
and then gave them to Moses [23:49] today
we have these written in our warm hearts by Jesus
[23:49] Let us now go back to the first
time the commandments were handed down to man
[23:50] kjv Deuteronomy 9:8-11 Deuteronomy
9:8 Also in Horeb ye provoked the LORD to wrath, so that
the LORD was angry with you to have destroyed you.
Deuteronomy 9:9 When I was gone up into the mount to
receive the tables of stone, even the tables of the
covenant which the LORD made with you, then I abode in
the mount forty days and forty nights, I neither did eat
bread nor drink water:
Deuteronomy 9:10 And the LORD delivered unto me two
tables of stone written with the finger of God; and on
them was written according to all the words, which the
LORD spake with you in the mount out of the midst of the
fire in the day of the assembly.
Deuteronomy 9:11 And it came to pass at the end of forty
days and forty nights, that the LORD gave me the two
tables of stone, even the tables of the covenant.
[23:54] notice He put them on a physical
object [23:54] it was not imprinted on the
hearts of man [23:54] why would this be
[23:54] because the gulf between man and
God that came from the sin
[23:54] kept them separated [23:55]
Now the way we relate to each other tells
us a lot about each other
[23:55] and it is the same when we look at
God and man [23:56] let us now see when
God spoke to Israel with the commandments and let us put
ourselves beside the Israelites as the scene continues
[23:56] kjv exodus 20:18-19 Exodus 20:18
And all the people saw the thunderings, and the
lightings, and the noise of the trumpet, and the mountain
smoking: and when the people saw it, they removed, and
stood afar off. Exodus 20:19 And they said unto Moses,
Speak thou with us, and we will hear: but let not God
speak with us, lest we die. [23:57] kjv
exodus 20:20-21 Exodus 20:20 And Moses said unto the
people, Fear not: for God is come to prove you, and that
his fear may be before your faces, that ye sin not.
Exodus 20:21 And the people stood afar off, and Moses
drew near unto the thick darkness where God was.
[23:57] here we are standing as God
manifested Himself to us all
[23:57] we see the lightening flashing
across the sky [23:58] the black clouds
rolling and angrily moving around the mountain
[23:58] and the thunder is so loud that
you feel it in your chest
[23:58] as it rolls out
[23:58] God is now in front of you [23:59]
and then you hear the voice [23:59]
that causes you to fall to your knees in
fear [23:59] for you know this is God
[23:59] and you hear
[23:59] The 10 commandments being given to
you [00:00] Thou shalt have no other gods
before me [00:00] Thou shalt not make unto
thee any graven image [00:01] Thou shalt
not take the name of the Lord thy god in vain
[00:01] Remember the Sabbath day , to keep
it holy [00:01] Honor thy father and
mother [00:02] Thou shalt not kill [00:02]
Thou shalt not commit adultery [00:02]
Thou shalt not steal [00:02]
Thou shalt not bear false witness against
thy neighbor
[00:03] Thou shalt not covet anything that
is they neighbors
[00:04] Now we fear to face our God and we
ask for Moses to stand before us as a intercessor for we
know we are guilty of sin and will die
[00:04] This is the relationship we have
with our God [00:04] It is like a fathers
relationship with a small child
[00:05] He has to keep us under control
for we are too young to know of the dangers
[00:05] and we are rebellious but immature
to be considered adult
[00:05] this is what one would call tough
love [00:05] God loved us
[00:06] but He knew we were not ready for
the meat of His laws and had to be supervised for a time
[00:06] but the problem is that the law is
on the outside and not the inside of us
[00:07] it was written on cold stone
[00:07] for hard hearts
[00:07] even today there are many that are
like the Israelites of old
[00:07] they will not harken to the Lord
when they meet Him
[00:08] and until they are totally knocked
to the ground they do not see
[00:08] but praise God for Jesus is here
today for us [00:08] and to pick us up
[00:08] but in the old testament there was
no help [00:09] it was only the cold hard
law of God [00:09] it was the law
[00:09] to man
[00:09] man failing the law [00:09]
punishment to man [00:09]
there was no total sacrifice for us [00:10]
thus we see the relationship of God and
man in the old testament
[00:10] Now let us move forward [00:10]
let us go to the new testament [00:11]
In the new testament we find that this
relationship between the Lord and man has changed [00:11]
Jesus is now walking the earth [00:12]
He is doing His ministry [00:12]
and He is showing the true love of God
[00:12] to His children
[00:12] kjv Matthew 5:19-21 Matthew 5:19
Whosoever therefore shall break one of these least
commandments, and shall teach men so, he shall be called
the least in the kingdom of heaven: but whosoever shall
do and teach them, the same shall be called great in the
kingdom of heaven. Matthew 5:20 For I say unto you, That
except your righteousness shall exceed the righteousness
of the scribes and Pharisees, ye shall in no case enter
into the kingdom of heaven.
Matthew 5:21 Ye have heard that it was said of them of
old time, Thou shalt not kill; and
whosoever shall kill shall be in danger of the judgment:
[00:13] kjv Matthew 5:22-23 Matthew 5:22
But I say unto you, That whosoever is angry with his
brother without a cause shall be in danger of the
judgment: and whosoever shall say to his brother, Raca,
shall be in danger of the council: but whosoever shall
say, Thou fool, shall be in danger of hell fire.
Matthew 5:23 Therefore if thou bring thy gift to the
altar, and there rememberest that thy brother hath ought
against thee; [00:13] here we find that
Jesus is expounding on the ten commandments
[00:14] He is not changing them but adding
more information for His children to live by
[00:14] the above tells of the key to
keeping the commandments
[00:14] Love
[00:14] Love each other
[00:14] as we love ourselves
[00:15] What God wrote on stone with His
finger
[00:15] Jesus is writing on our hearts
with love
[00:15] this does not diminish the
commandments
[00:16] in any way as some say
[00:16] it did not change the commandments
in any way
[00:16] it does not weaken the
commandments in any way
[00:16] He is fulfilling the commandments
[00:17] He paid the price for our sin
[00:17] and made a way for us to come to
God
[00:17] and not be fearful
[00:17] and this is because we do it
through Him in our
lives
[00:18] kjv mark 12:28-29 Mark 12:28 And
one of the scribes came, and having heard them reasoning
together, and
perceiving that he had answered them well, asked him,
Which is the first commandment of all?
Mark 12:29 And Jesus answered him, The first of all the
commandments is, Hear, O Israel; The Lord our God is one
Lord: [00:18] kjv mark 12:30-31
Mark 12:30 And thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all
thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind,
and with all thy strength: this is the first commandment.
Mark 12:31 And the second is like, namely this, Thou
shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. There is none other
commandment greater than these.
[00:18] Here we have the key [00:18]
Jesus has given it to us [00:19]
love thy neighbor [00:19]
as we love ourselves [00:19] instead of
standing in fear as we hear the law [00:19]
we can stand in joy as Jesus tells us the
law [00:20] whereas in the old testament
it was tough love of a father
[00:20] here we see the humble love of a
father [00:21] How do we follow the
commandants n today's society
[00:21] the answer is a four letter word
[00:21] and it is said by many many times
[00:21] but it is only meant by a few
[00:21] it is the word LOVE [00:21]
LOVE for each other [00:22]
LOVE for God
[00:22] Love for all mankind [00:22]
in Love we can fulfill the commandments
[00:22] and by love we can show others
[00:22] Jesus in our lives and actions
[00:23] kjv john 14:15 If ye love me, keep
my commandments
[00:24] kjv john 14:20-21 John 14:20 At
that day ye shall know that I am in my Father, and ye in
me, and I in you.
John 14:21 He that hath my commandments, and keepeth
them, he it is that loveth me: and he that loveth me
shall be loved of my Father, and I will love him, and
will manifest myself to him.
[00:24] kjv john 14:22-24 John 14:22 Judas
saith unto him, not Iscariot, Lord, how is it that thou
wilt manifest thyself unto us, and not unto the world?
John 14:23 Jesus answered and said unto him, If a man
love me, he will keep my words: and my Father will love
him, and we will come unto him, and make our abode with
him.
John 14:24 He that loveth me not keepeth not my sayings:
and the word which ye hear is not mine, but the Father's
which sent me. [00:25] here we are told
[00:25] by Jesus being in us we have the
ability to follow the examples of the commandments to
live by [00:25] alone we are no good at
doing this [00:26] kjv romans 3:23 For all
have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;
[00:26] kjv james 2:10 For whosoever shall
keep the whole law, and yet offend in one point, he is
guilty of all. [00:26] here we see we can
not alone keep the laws [00:26] we are
unrighteous
[00:27] it is only by Jesus in us that we
are righteous [00:27] it is through Jesus
we can hope to fulfil what is expected of us
[00:27] but if we fail, glory to God we
have Jesus to pick us up and help us through
[00:28] let us test our selves now [00:28]
this is not a test for condemnation but to
see where we need to ask Jesus to help us
[00:28] in our lives
[00:29] by doing this daily [00:29]
we can do it
[00:29] Remember this is not for
condemnation [00:29] it is for helping to
grow mature in the Lord [00:30] answer
these questions to your self in a yes or no and see
[00:30] Are you letting the love of
selfish pleasure mean more to you then the Lord?
[00:31] if yes you have broken law one
[00:31] Do you put man made objects in a
place of worship in your life?
[00:31] cars--houses--clothes [00:31]
for example
[00:32] if yes you broke law 2 [00:32]
Do you casually and hypocritically use the
lords name?
[00:32] if yes law 3 breaks [00:33]
Failure to worship the Lord on His day?
[00:33] if yes law 4 is broke [00:33]
this is not just on Sabbath but on what
ever day you set aside for the lord to worship Him
[00:34] Disrespect and ingratitude to
parents? [00:34] if yes law 5 is busted
[00:34] Angry and ,malicious thoughts in
our heart to others?
[00:34] yes means law 6 is gone [00:35]
Lustful thoughts in the hearts or
unfaithfulness?
[00:35] law 7 shattered
[00:35] Cheating or taking from another?
[00:35] law 8 snapped
[00:36] Gossip demeaning remarks and
malicious pranks on others?
[00:36] law 9 cracked
[00:36] Wanting what others have? [00:36]
law 10 is broke
[00:37] this is not a checklist for
condemning oneself but a checklist for seeing that we are
right with our lives to God [00:37] what
is the key to not doing these things ? [00:37]
How can we do them right like God wants us
to? [00:38] Love
[00:38] love one another as we love
ourselves [00:38] in this we can change
the world through Jesus Christ
[00:38] let us ask ourselves [00:39]
are we truly showing the love of Christ to
others
[00:39] are we showing our love to Jesus
[00:39] by our lies
[00:39] Why love?
[00:40] kjv 1 john 4:7 Beloved, let us
love one another: for love is of God; and every one that
loveth is born of God, and knoweth God.
[00:40] kjv 1 john 4:19 We love him,
because he first loved us.
[00:41] love whom?
[00:41] kjv romans 13:8 Owe no man any
thing, but to love one another: for he that loveth
another hath fulfilled the law. [00:42]
How do we love?
[00:42] as Christ loved
[00:42] same for all
[00:42] with unfeigned love--no pretense
[00:42] with a pure heart [00:43]
that means for everyone [00:43]
and What does love do? [00:43]
covers faults
[00:43] forgets and forgives [00:44]
wins trust from others [00:44]
give joyously
[00:44] ministers to those that are
hurting [00:44] speaks God's word in
actions and words to others [00:44] and it
glorifies God [00:45] with this key we can
fulfill the commandments [00:45] yes the
commandments are viable today in our lives
[00:45] yes they were first put on cold
stone tablets [00:46] but later they were
put in warm hearts [00:46] God is no
longer outside of us [00:46] he is in us
[00:46] He is our loving father [00:46]
our creator
[00:46] our Saviour
[00:47] and one day the commandments will
be behind us [00:47] for one day we will
all join Jesus in heaven [00:47] where
there is no more sickness [00:47] no more
sin
[00:47] no more hurt
[00:47] no more pain
[00:48] and because the glory of God will
be all around there will be no more commandments
[00:48] because the perfect law of love
will be all that surrounds us
[00:48] through Jesus we have been given
this gift [00:48] glory to God
[00:49] for now instead of it being on
cold stones [00:49] it is in warm hearts
[00:49] amen
[00:50] let us pray
[00:50] our heavenly father [00:50]
we come to you tonight [00:50]
knowing that you are the only way [00:50]
yes we do
[00:51] we thank you tonight for the
commandments you have given us
[00:51] yes lord
[00:51] we thank you for coming and
providing a way for us to come to you
[00:51] we thank you for bridging the gap
for us [00:51] yes lord
[00:51] we thank you for your love [00:51]
yes lord we do
[00:51] and eternal life through Jesus
[00:51] yes
[00:52] we ask now that you bless everyone
here tonight [00:52]
