TOUCHING THE HEM OF THE GARMENT
TURNING A NEED INTO A DEED
Subject: Bible Study... "Touching The Hem--Turning A Need Into A Deed"
[00:16] Tonight let us take a while and look at something that is effecting many in the world today
[00:17] In this time we are living in there are many trials and tribulations that will come before us [00:18] Not a person here is free from these trying times
[00:18] Or having a need that they are praying for God to fill
[00:19] Now we are tonight going to talk of healings from the Lord
[00:19] but it is not only for physical healings but we will also include spiritual and emotional
[00:20] for we are all in for times of needs in all these areas
[00:20] Many talk of healing in the physical sense [00:21] but healing from the Lord can also be emotional and spiritual
[00:21] Touching the hem is going to address these areas tonight
[00:22] In the time of Jesus the men wore robes as they went
[00:22] and on the bottom of these robes were 4 tassels [00:22] that would touch the ground [00:22] also on the bottom of the hem there was sometimes a blue border
[00:23] This was a ordained order from God to the Jewish men
[00:23] it was a symbol
[00:23] and so tonight we are going to look at this [00:24] let us go to the Word of God [00:24] it is time now for us to see the setting [00:24] Jesus is walking through the city [00:24] there is a crowd of people around Him [00:25] they are all trying to get closer to Jesus [00:25] let us now see someone in a need that gives us a example to follow
[00:25] for our lives today [00:26] kjv Matthew 9:18-21 Matthew 9:18 While he spake these things unto them, behold, there came a certain ruler, and worshipped him, saying, My daughter is even now dead: but come and lay thy hand upon her, and she shall live. Matthew 9:19 And Jesus arose, and followed him, and so did his disciples.
Matthew 9:20 And, behold, a woman, which was diseased with an issue of blood twelve years, came behind him, and touched the hem of his garment:
Matthew 9:21 For she said within herself, If I may but touch his garment, I shall be whole.
[00:27] Here we see the lady [00:27] she is weakened from the years of pain and misery
[00:28] To her up until now there was no hope for her life to be whole
[00:28] until now she had wanted her need to become a deed
[00:28] but it had not come [00:28] Is this not like what many of us here have felt at times
[00:29] we are hurting and depressed [00:29] It looks like our need will not be filled [00:29] We are surrounded by many who try and plant seeds of doubt in our minds
[00:30] we begin to look at the problem and see no hope of a answer
[00:30] This is like the woman we have just read about [00:31] kjv Matthew 9:20 And, behold, a woman, which was diseased with an issue of blood twelve years, came behind him, and touched the hem of his garment:
[00:31] She touched the hem of his garment [00:31] weak as she was she made her way through the crowd
[00:32] perhaps all she could see was the hem of His garment
[00:32] she probably was crawling through the crowd [00:32] but inside she knew she had to touch Jesus [00:33] in her mind she had only one thing in site [00:33] to touch the hem of His garment [00:36] When we are in a need we can always go to Jesus [00:37] in prayer we are like the woman many times [00:37] we are praying for Jesus to intervene for us [00:37] and help us through [00:37] to give us peace
[00:37] or a healing
[00:38] But at times we are separated or hindered from moving forward
[00:39] Satan puts a crowd of things in front of us to hinder us from reaching out to God
[00:39] sometimes we are so weak in body or soul we feel near faint
[00:39] but like the woman we have to push our way through
[00:39] fear has to be pushed aside [00:40] doubt has to be pushed aside [00:40] we have to be bold and set our mind on the fact that we are not going to give up
[00:40] we will pray and pray and pray until Jesus changes our need into a deed
[00:41] we are crawling forward in prayer shoving our way through until finally we can touch the hem of His garment [00:41] Let us look now at what happened [00:42] kjv Matthew 9:21 For she said within herself, If I may but touch his garment, I shall be whole. [00:42] Here we see she has purposed it in her heart to touch Jesus for she knows a need will be changed into a deed [00:43] then after pulling herself forward finally she touches the hem
[00:43] her fingers just touch it as Jesus is walking [00:44] and suddenly the whole scene like her life is changed
[00:44] kjv Matthew 9:22 But Jesus turned him about, and when he saw her, he said, Daughter, be of good comfort; thy faith hath made thee whole. And the woman was made whole from that hour. [00:44] kjv Luke 7:50 And he said to the woman, Thy faith hath saved thee; go in peace.
[00:45] kjv Luke 8:48 And he said unto her, Daughter, be of good comfort: thy faith hath made thee whole; go in peace. [00:45] all of these are on the same event [00:46] Jesus turned her need into a deed [00:46] she fulfilled her prayers [00:46] all it took was a slight touch of His garment [00:46] a single second
[00:46] and He made her whole [00:47] she was able to be whole and walk [00:47] It was by her faith in the Lord and her not giving up that she had her need changed into a deed [00:47] Today I ask you all [00:48] are you like the woman [00:48] is there a need in our life [00:48] whether it be physical [00:48] spiritual
[00:48] or emotional
[00:48] is it a need or a battle you have been waging for a long time
[00:49] are you weary from it [00:49] don't give up
[00:49] don't give up
[00:49] remember it only takes a touch from Jesus to change that need in our life
[00:49] if someone says it is impossible [00:50] then go forward and keep praying and believing [00:50] Jesus is the answer [00:50] but Don't give up [00:50] Don't give up
[00:50] put your self in the place of this woman [00:51] if she had stopped trying to reach the hem [00:51] if she had let those around her stop her from trying
[00:51] if she had listened to those who were telling her she was being silly
[00:51] for what she was doing [00:51] then she would not have been healed [00:52] her need would have stayed a need [00:52] and never become a deed [00:52] Jesus answered her [00:52] not because someone else helped her [00:52] but because she had the faith to press through the crowd
[00:52] no to stand and hug Jesus [00:53] not to hold on to Him [00:53] but just to touch the small tassels that were on the hem of His robe
[00:53] see you do not have to be the worlds greatest prayer person
[00:54] you do not have to be a super Christian [00:54] all you have to do [00:54] is
[00:54] have faith
[00:54] believe
[00:54] pray
[00:54] and above all
[00:54] DON'T GIVE UP
[00:55] In the Bible we are given another example of this
[00:55] in it we are now going to meet a man [00:55] who had a need that needed to be changed into a deed
[00:55] kjv john 5:1-6
John 5:1 After this there was a feast of the Jews; and Jesus went up to Jerusalem.
John 5:2 Now there is at Jerusalem by the sheep market a pool, which is called in the Hebrew tongue Bethesda, having five porches. John 5:3 In these lay a great multitude of impotent folk, of blind, halt, withered, waiting for the moving of the water. John 5:4 For an angel went down at a certain season into the pool, and troubled the water: whosoever then first after the troubling of the water stepped in was made whole of whatsoever disease he had. John 5:5 And a certain man was there, which had an infirmity thirty and eight years.
John 5:6 When Jesus saw him lie, and knew that he had been now a long time in that case, he saith unto him, Wilt thou be made whole? [00:57] Here we find the man who for eight years with a need
[00:57] for 8 long years he had sit there waiting for his need to be changed into a deed
[00:57] he had seen the troubled water in the pool many times
[00:57] and he had seen others get healed [00:58] but he could never reach the pool in time for his healing
[00:58] imagine for 8 years seeing others get their needs changed to deeds
[00:58] and knowing he was not going to receive his [00:59] now surely there were some around him who were saying give up
[00:59] you will not get your miracle [00:59] why stay and torment your self so [00:59] but like the woman this man did not give up [00:59] daily he kept looking and asking for his need to be changed to a deed
[01:00] now many of us today are like this man [01:00] we have a need in our life and we keep praying for it to be changed
[01:01] perhaps it is a lost loved one [01:01] or a sickness of body --mind --or soul [01:01] and as we seek the need to be changed we see others around us
getting their answers
[01:01] from the Lord
[01:02] I have been praying for a healing for 5 years [01:02] and look over there He got his in just a few minutes
[01:02] this is the thought that sometimes comes into our mind
[01:02] and if the enemy can get you to dwell on this you will in the end give up
[01:03] through frustration [01:03] but like the man at the pool [01:03] we have to keep our faith [01:03] and keep praying --praying--praying [01:03] until our answer comes [01:04] reaching out to touch Jesus [01:04] that must be our goal [01:04] if we are to see our need become a deed [01:04] kjv john 5:6-7
John 5:6 When Jesus saw him lie, and knew that he had been now a long time in that case, he saith unto him, Wilt thou be made whole? John 5:7 The impotent man answered him, Sir, I have no man, when the water is troubled, to put me into the pool: but while I am coming, another steppeth down before me.
[01:05] see here we find another point that can stop our need from being a deed
[01:05] that man is stating the obvious that he sees with his mortal eyes
[01:06] he is not looking over the problem to Him that can answer his prayer
[01:06] and change the need to a deed [01:06] Don't ever look at the problem form your viewpoint
[01:06] mortal view can accomplish nothing [01:07] Look to Jesus and His promises [01:07] He will be there for you [01:07] looking at the problem only brings discouragement and frustration
[01:07] look above the problem to Him that can change that need to a deed
[01:08] look to His hem of the garment of His virtue and righteousness'
[01:08] kjv john 5:6-9
John 5:6 When Jesus saw him lie, and knew that he had been now a long time in that case, he saith unto him, Wilt thou be made whole? John 5:7 The impotent man answered him, Sir, I have no man, when the water is troubled, to put me into the pool: but while I am coming, another steppeth down before me.
John 5:8 Jesus saith unto him, Rise, take up thy bed, and walk. John 5:9 And immediately the man was made whole, and took up his bed, and walked: and on the same day was the sabbath. [01:09] Jesus came and answered the mans prayer [01:09] He changed the need into a deed [01:10] Jesus did it for the woman in the street with the issue of blood
[01:10] Jesus did it for the man at the pool [01:10] and
[01:10] Jesus can
[01:10] DO IT FOR YOU
[01:10] DO IT FOR YOU
[01:10] DO IT FOR YOU
[01:11] All you need to do is set your heart and mind on Him
[01:11] close your ears to those who try and plant the seeds of doubt in your mind
[01:11] press through the crowd [01:11] DON'T GIVE UP
[01:12] DON'T GIVE UP
[01:12] Let your faith in Jesus flow [01:12] trust in His promises [01:12] pray
[01:12] keep praying
[01:12] for your answer is coming [01:12] Jesus is walking by [01:13] reach out
[01:13] reach out
[01:13] touch His hem of His garment [01:13] and be made whole [01:13] free
[01:13] made
[01:13] whole
[01:13] free
[01:13] strong
[01:13] bold in the Lord
[01:14] shove fear away
[01:14] push your way through doubt [01:14] push your way through frustration [01:14] move forward through despair [01:14] but above all
[01:14] DON'T GIVE UP

[01:15] DON'T GIVE UP
[01:15] your answer is on the way [01:15] and Jesus will make you whole [01:15] and by touching the hem of His garment [01:15] your need will be made a deed [01:16] tonight I feel there are many needs here [01:16] it is not an accident you are here [01:16] there is a need in your life [01:16] and you are seeking the answer [01:16] you want your need to be changed into a deed [01:16] Jesus will do it
[01:17] I do not know the needs of all of you [01:17] but Jesus does
[01:17] and in closing let us pray for these needs [01:17] feel free to join in [01:17] for this is something we all need to do for each other and
ourselves

[01:18] you know what is needed by each of us [01:18] yes Lord
[01:18] we now lift these needs up to you Lord [01:18] thank you for bringing cgris back safe with us again [01:18] we lay them at your feet [01:18] thank you Jesus

[01:18] we trust in your promises [01:18] yes Lord
[01:18] yes
[01:19] Thank you Lord
[01:19] and now in the name of Jesus we ask for these needs to be filled

[01:19] let your will be done Lord [01:19] Thank you Lord

[01:19] in our lives
[01:19] yes Father
[01:19] we turn it all over to you [01:19] yes always your will Lord not ours [01:19] right now Lord we pray [01:19] yes lord
[01:19] and now ask for that back pain to be gone in the name of Jesus
