where we left off last Wednesday night
[00:35] We are going to be doing a series
on spiritual gifts
[00:36] and tonight we will be talking on
the Gift of Discernment
[00:36] first let us look at the word to
set a background
[00:38] kjv Luke 24:46
[00:38] ALBible 7[]4KJV7[]6 Luke 24:46 - And said unto
them, Thus it is written, and thus it behoved Christ to
suffer, and to rise from the dead the third day:

repentance and remission of sins should be preached in
his name among all nations, beginning at Jerusalem.

witnesses of these things.

his disciples orders to wait for the power to come before
going out to fulfil his mission
[00:40] Jesus did not want his disciples
to go before they were endued with the power to face the
world [00:41] likewise He sends us the
gifts of the spirit to aid us in the world today
[00:41] we each have a special gift to
give to the body of Christ
[00:42] tonight we will talk of the gift
of discernment [00:42] now the definition
of the gift of discernment is [00:42]
Definition==The gift of discerning of spirits is the
special ability that God gives to some members of the
Body of Christ to know with assurance whether certain
behavior purported to be of God is in reality divine,
human, or satanic.
[00:43] in these last days we are to
definitely have this gift working in the body of Christ
[00:44] for we are facing new age theology
[00:44] Amen!
[00:45] some today say the gifts in the
church are not needed like they were in the old times
[00:45] but without these we are all in
danger [00:45] Why is discernment needed
by the child of God in these last days?--For us to
survive and be able to operate in the secular world as we
go forth daily doing the work of God and for our own
protection.------/we must remember that in this daily
struggle for the lost we must realize that for every
action of God –Satan has a similar but opposite reaction
that if we are not able to discern we may fall prey to

expressly, that in the latter times some shall depart
from the faith, giving heed to seducing spirits, and

4:2 [00:46] ALBible 7[]4KJV7[]6 1 Timothy 4:2 - Speaking
lies in hypocrisy; having their
conscience seared with a hot iron;
[00:47] here we are warned of the dangers
we will face as we go out to do the Lords work
[00:47] in these last days [00:48]
For Christ--he has the antichrist///for
every prophet he has a false prophet///for every apostle
he has a false apostle///and for every sheep in the fold
he has a wolf in sheep clothing//

[00:49] yes for every thing that the lord
has for us –Satan has in the world and they are so close
in theology that without discernment even the very elect
would be deceived [00:50] now we must not
mistake the gift of discernment with the talent of
testing the spirits
[00:51] all christians can test the
spirits for the word says so
[00:51] if it does not align with the Word
of God then it is not of God
[00:51] amen
[00:52] but when the false doctrines is
laced with a little truth
[00:52] then discernment has to kick in
[00:52] let us look at some examples of
how discernment works in these people
[00:53] Although every believer has the
ability to test the spirit; some have been given the gift
of discerning the spirit and for those with this gift
there are examples of how the gift works in them.
[00:53] 1. They can discriminate between
what is raised up by God and that which pretends to
be.---2.They have the ability to unmask Satan's
trickery---3.They can detect false teachers and ferret
them out.---4.They can detect false teachings.---5. They
can spot a phony before others can see them for what they
truly are. [00:53] Examples of this
are;////They can read religious books and articles and
almost immediately detect a subtle error that many may
not see.////They can listen to a sermon and pick up on
any defiencey of the truth.///
[00:53] They can listen to a new cultic
idea or belief or teaching that has a mixture of truth
and error and not be swayed into it and can warn others
of it.///They can tell if the atmosphere of a church
service is staged, hyped up, or is a true movement of
God. [00:54] Not everything religious
should be accepted on its face value as Christian or
Biblical. to distinguish this error is true spiritual
discernment
[00:55] in the bible we are given example
of discernment in action
[00:55] let us look to the Book of Acts
and see some of them
[00:55] but lets see where the Lord Jesus
shows us discernment in action
[00:56] kjv Matthew 16:17-18 [00:56]

said unto him, Blessed art thou, Simon Barjona: for flesh
and blood hath not revealed it unto thee, but my Father

16:18 - And I say also unto thee, That thou art Peter,
and upon this rock I will build my church; and the gates
of hell shall not prevail against it. [00:57]
now here Jesus is showing that Peters
answer came from
knowledge given by God

that when gifts are working in us we can fall into a trap

will give unto thee the keys of the kingdom of heaven:
and whatsoever thou shalt bind on earth shall be bound in
heaven: and whatsoever thou shalt loose on earth shall be
loosed in heaven.

he his disciples that they should tell no man that he was

forth began Jesus to shew unto his disciples, how that he
must go unto Jerusalem, and suffer many things of the
elders and chief priests and scribes, and be killed, and

to rebuke him, saying, Be it far from thee, Lord: this
shall not be unto thee.

an offence unto me: for thou savourest not the things

now we see here that Jesus discerned Satan
trying to ensnare and with discernment He speaks forth
[00:59] now let us look at peter [01:00]
he used discernment when he confronted
Ananias and Sapphira
[01:01] through discernment the Holy
Spirit told him they were not being truthful
[01:01] kjv Acts 5:1-3
[01:01] ALBible 7[]4KJV7[]6 Acts 5:1 - But a certain man
named Ananias, with Sapphira his wife, sold a possession,
[01:01] ALBible 7[]4KJV7[]6 Acts 5:2 - And kept back part
of the price, his wife also being privy to it, and
brought a certain part, and laid it at the apostles'
feet.

Ananias, why hath Satan filled thine heart to lie to the
Holy Ghost, and to keep back part of the price of the
land?

remained, was it not thine own? and after it was sold,

the Spirit of the Lord? behold, the feet of them which
have buried thy husband are at the door, and shall carry
thee out.

down straightway at his feet, and yielded up the ghost:
and the young men came in, and found her dead, and,

in this we see that Peter was using
discernment to route out a lie
[01:05] Simon of Samaria is another
example of the discernment in action
[01:06] he professed and was baptized but
Peter discerned his heart when he asked to buy the power

7[]4KJV7[]6 Acts 13:20 - And after that he gave unto them
judges about the space of four hundred and fifty years,
until Samuel the prophet.
[01:07] Paul also used the gift of
discernment in his dealings with elymas of cypress
[01:08] kjv Acts 13:10-11 [01:08] ALBible
7[]4KJV7[]6 Acts 13:10 - And said, O full of all subtilty
and all mischief, thou child of the devil, thou enemy of
all righteousness, wilt thou not cease to pervert the
right ways of the Lord?

the hand of the Lord is upon thee, and thou shalt be
blind, not seeing the sun for a season. And immediately
there fell on him a mist and a darkness; and he went
about seeking some to lead him by the hand [01:09]
Paul could discern the heart of Elymus
[01:09] in Philippi Paul used discernment
to handle the seeress that followed proclaimng the truth

pass, as we went to prayer, a certain damsel possessed
with a spirit of divination met us, which brought her
masters much gain by soothsaying: [01:10] ALBible

and cried, saying, These men are the servants of the most
high God, which shew unto us the way of salvation.
[01:10] ALBible 7[]4KJV7[]6 Acts 16:18 - And this did she
many days. But Paul, being grieved, turned and said to
the spirit, I command thee in the name of Jesus Christ to
come out of her. And he came out the same hour.

the hope of their gains was gone, they caught Paul and
Silas, and drew them into the marketplace unto the

brought them to the magistrates, saying, These men, being
Jews, do exceedingly trouble our city,

customs, which are not lawful for us to receive, neither
to observe, being Romans [01:12]
Discernment in the days of the book of Acts was readily
used and flowed through the body of Christ [01:12]
and like wise we today must have the gift
of discernment flowing for us to do the job that the Lord
has set before us
[01:13] we must all seek and pray for God
to send us the gifts for todys fight with the world
[01:13] if we are to save those bound by
the enemy [01:13] amen
[01:14] amen
[01:15] the Holy Spirit is ready to
release the gifts in the body of Christ and all we have
to do is be open to His leading [01:16] So
we come to the close of the study on the Gift of
Discernment
[01:16] Now in any study on the Gifts of
the Spirit one tries to group the gifts into a order for
teaching. This is hard to do for many of the gifts lap
over other gifts. But for this series of studies we will
group them as follow. This does not mean it is totally
right but each can group them as he sees fit. But for
this study I have grouped them in the following way.
