[00:30] CRONUS-KEDAR changes topic to "BIBLE STUDY: THE
SPIRITUAL GIFT OF MERCY AND YOU"
[00:30] Tonight we are going to be talking
about the gift of mercy and how it works in the body
[00:31] This gift is one that is a little
complicated cause it overlaps 3 of the other gift of the
spirit [00:32] In these last days we need
this gift flowing for times are going to get tougher on
the Body of Christ [00:32] First let us
look at the definition of Mercy [00:32]
Mercy is a special ability that God gives to certain
members of the Body to feel compassion for individuals
who suffer distressing physical or emotional problems,
and to translate that compassion into cheerfully done
deeds which reflect Christ's love and stop the suffering.
[00:33] The workings involved in this gift
is not just a stirring of
emotions, but a deep down compassion , supernatural in
origin. It is act of divine love under the Spirit's
guidance acting in Christ's name with the objective of
glorifying the Father and not oneself. [00:33]
Whoever has this gift does not turn away
in the face of another's misery, but is pulled toward his
suffering brother or sister and must do something about
it. This gift involves more THEN A FEELING OF PITY, IT
REQUIRES ACTION!
[00:34] in these days facing the body of
Christ we will need those who have been given this gift
by God to operate freely in the body
[00:35] Let us now look at a story that
shows mercy at its best
[00:35] kjv luke 10:33 But a certain
Samaritan, as he journeyed, came where he was: and when
he saw him, he had compassion on him,
Luke 10:34 And went to him, and bound up his wounds,
pouring in oil and wine, and set him on his own beast,
and brought him to an inn, and took care of him.
Luke 10:35 And on the morrow when he departed, he took
out two pence, and gave them to the host, and said unto
him, Take care of him; and whatsoever thou spendest more,
when I come again, I will repay thee. [00:37]
This is what I like to call the mercy
parable of Jesus
[00:37] It shows the selfless act of a
individual toward a needy person
[00:38] If we sympathize with a hurting
brother or sister by telling them we feel for them and
know their pain;; is this showing the gift of mercy
[00:39] no it is not as some would believe
the gift of mercy
[00:40] for we have done nothing to help
the hurting one [00:40] we have gave them
words of comfort [00:40] but we did not
eliminate the problem [00:41] no it is
when we do something to help stop the hurting then we are
using the gift of mercy [00:42] To really
help we must apply ourselves [00:42] and
to achieve we must do [00:42] When ever
Jesus was moved by compassion, He did not just say I
understand my brother and go on. but He did something
about it. His mercy was not a vague idea or a statement
of empty words--but He expressed His mercy with concrete
deeds that fulfilled the needs.
[00:43] Jesus healed the blind [00:43]
Jesus healed the lepers [00:43]
He healed the sick [00:44]
He fed the multitudes [00:45] In truth His
whole life's ministry on earth was demonstrations of His
compassion or mercy. [00:45] And He has
given us the ultimate example of the gift of mercy
[00:46] and that is the supreme evidence
of His sacrifice on the cross for the lost
[00:47] He did the deeds of compassion for
the lost and we as the body of Christ should likewise be
willing to help the hurting with deeds and not just empty
words
[00:47] James tells us directions for the
gift of mercy operations
[00:48] kjv james 2:15-16 If a brother or
sister be naked, and destitute of daily food,
James 2:16 And one of you say unto them, Depart in peace,
be ye warmed and filled;
notwithstanding ye give them not those things which are
needful to the body; what doth it profit?
[00:48] the gift of mercy must flow
through the body if the body is to survive
[00:49] amen
[00:49] The gift of mercy does not end
with caring; but is proved by sharing
[00:49] example of the gift in operation:
One goes to the home of a sick person or what we call a
visitation and they speak to them Words and pray for them
and they think they are using the gift of mercy;;but in
truth this is exhortation--for if that same person after
speaking goes and prepares their meals then they are
operating in the gift of Mercy.
[00:50] Now those operating in this gift
must also be led by the Holy Spirit as they work the gift
[00:51] It is the Holy Spirit that will
tell the operator whether to help directly or indirectly
[00:52] And this is important for God does
not want His children to become dependant on another
member of the body [00:52] Help when help
is needed [00:52] give when it is needed
[00:53] Example of this is [00:53]
If you continually hep someone again and
again [00:54] they will not in time try to
help themselves [00:54] mercy is to help
over te hard times to the body but it is not to be a
substitute for working [00:55] Sometimes
it is better for the person in need to be helped until
they are ready to help themselves [00:56]
when they are ready then it is for the body to help get
them back to what they were before the tribulation
happened to them
[00:56] working for God and themselves
[00:57] But the gift of mercy is to be
used to help a member of the body until they are ready
[00:57] Now let us look at another side of
this [00:57] To give mercy one must do it
cheerfully [00:57] with no strings
attached [00:58] amen
[00:58] it is to be for God's glory we do
this and not our own
[00:58] kjv Rmans 12:8 Or he that
exhorteth, on exhortation: he that giveth, let him do it
with simplicity; he that ruleth, with diligence; he that
sheweth mercy, with cheerfulness. [00:59]
Doing mercy with a growl nullifies the service, the gift
of mercy under the inner direction of the Holy Spirit
makes the doer of mercy a gigantic sunbeam of joy
penetrating the hurting inner chamber of the soul of the
afflicted.
[01:00] By doing this happily we are
showing the world the true teachings of Christ
[01:00] and we are examples to the world
of Christ [01:01] Though believers are to
extend mercy to the unbeliever the primary purpose of
this gift is to help the children of God. It is to edify
the Body of Christ. we are to do good to all men but
especially to the house of God. which is the suffering
saints. [01:01] kjv Gal 6:10 As we have
therefore opportunity, let us do good unto all men,
especially unto them who are of the household of faith.
[01:02] now as we flow in the gift of
mercy there is one thing that is evident to all
[01:03] We have to be impartial to
outsiders and kind to all no matter their race
[01:03] Jesus looked on the inside and not
the outside [01:03] and so must we
[01:04] Deeds of mercy do not have to be
gigantic in the eyes of God
[01:04] they can be small things if they
relieve a burden on a fellow brother and sister
[01:05] and we do not do this for our
glory but for God's glory
[01:05] and He will reward us [01:05]
look to
[01:05] kjv Mark 9:41 For whosoever shall
give you a cup of water to drink in my name, because ye
belong to Christ, verily I say unto you, he shall not
lose his reward.
[01:06] God knows what we do in the
operation of mercy and he does reward us
[01:06] Indeed the strongest witness to a
lost world looking for help could be the gift of mercy
working in the Body of Christ. for by this outward
showing of mercy we show to the world our faith in
Christ.
[01:06] a professor in college once said
and I quote."The most important contribution almost all
of us make in the world is our own interpersonal
relations." Our personal acts of kindness and concern
have probably 100 times more impact of others, then our
advocacy of enlightened ideas."
[01:06] now let us change the last part of
that statement
[01:07] then our preaching of the gospel
[01:07] if the world sees it in deeds then
they will know that Jesus is real and is something that
will fulfill them [01:08] When we as the
Body of Christ show a act of kindness
[01:08] then someone's life is brightened
a little [01:09] and their confidence is
increased in the Lord [01:09] God let us
seek the gift of mercy and have it flow for us today
[01:09] let us pray
[01:09] Our heavenly father [01:10]
we come to you now and ask for the gift of
mercy to flow mightily in the body of Christ
[01:10] yes lord
[01:10] let us be sensitive to our fellow
brothers and sisters
[01:10] yes lord
[01:10] and be there for them in their
time of need [01:11] yes lord
[01:11] Let us have mercy operating in all
that we do [01:11] yes
[01:11] we now ask that you bless all that
are here tonight
[01:11] protect and bless them and their
families [01:11] yes lord
[01:12] we ask these things in the
wonderful name of Jesus
[01:12] amen
[01:12] amen
[01:12] Thank you for letting me talk
tonight [01:12] Fantastic study CRONUS
