[00:12] Tonight I would like to start by telling you all a story
[00:12] about a monkey--a man--
a check book--and a credit card.
[00:13] There once was a man who
lived in the big city,
[00:13] and he was always trying to find something different to show his friends. [00:13] So one day he went into a pet store and while looking around saw a sign offering a monkey for sale.
[00:14] When he talked to the store keeper he found out the monkey was real
smart for a monkey.
[00:14] So he bought the monkey and for weeks he taught the monkey how to read the numbers off his credit card and type
them in on a toy telephone.
[00:16] Then when he held a party he showed his friends how smart the monkey was by letting him type the numbers off the card
and into the toy phone.
[00:17] Everyone thought it was great and he was the life of the party.
[00:17] Two weeks passed and the man
was looking at his checking account when he
saw a large sum of money missing.
[00:18] Then he got his credit card
statement and saw where an automatic withdrawl by the company occurred.
[00:19] In shock he tried to fix it but the charges were correct.
[00:19] That night he was sitting in the living room and looked over to the phone where he saw his monkey quietly typing in numbers on the keys.
[00:20] It seemed the monkey had taken the numbers he had learned and was really calling in charges on the credit card. [00:20] Now here we see the monkey had been given the knowledge to operate the the card. But the wisdom to use it was missing.
[00:21] So the man took out his check book and wrote the payment check.
[00:22] This is why wisdom today in the church is needed.
[00:22] Wisdom is the special ability that God gives to members of his body to know the mind of God in a way that they receive insight into how given knowledge may best be applied to specific needs arising in the body of Christ.
[00:24] In these last days we need the gift of wisdom to operate in the body of
Christ.
[00:25] Knowledge without wisdom is worth nothing and is of no benefit to any one [00:26] Solomon when praying asked God for wisdom not wealth, not fame but wisdom. [00:27] Wisdom is to be sought after by the body today.
[00:27] kjv Proverbs 2:6 For the LORD giveth wisdom: out of his mouth cometh knowledge and understanding.
kjv Proverbs 3:3 Let not mercy and truth forsake thee: bind them about thy neck;
write them upon the table of thine heart:
[00:28] Wisdom comes from God to help us in the world today.
[00:29] It is wisdom that will let one talk to a unbeliever in such a way as to give him understanding.
[00:30] It is wisdom that lets one know when the time is right to use the knowledge God gives to the body.
[00:30] Wisdom is used in 4 different areas in the new testament as examples:
[00:31] 1. Defense before hostile courts ( Stephen used the gift of wisdom
when he talked to the Sanhedrin.
[00:32] The knowledge he had been given by the Holy Spirit was used effectively because wisdom was applied.
[00:33] Peter used wisdom in his defense before the courts that he had faced coupled with knowledge from God.
[00:33] 2. Answers to the unbelievers; Wisdom with knowledge gives one the power to meet and refute any arguments against the Word of God.
[00:34] We are told to be ready always and when confronted by debating of the Word of God it is wisdom that will overcome any arguement.
[00:35] 3. Solutions to problem situations. When someoneis having a rough time with a problem it is wisdom that tells one what to say and how to say it without causing more harm then good.
[00:37] 4. Application to proper conduct. Paul's writings show this for
in the epistles, he builds his letters on a two sided base utilizing both knowledge with wisdom to explain the conduct for the body.
[00:39] kjv psalm 1:1-2 Blessed is the man that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor standeth in the way of sinners, nor sitteth in the seat of the scornful. But his delight is in the law of the LORD; and in his law doth he meditate day and night.
kjv james 1:5 If any of you lack wisdom,
let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him.
[00:41] kjv colossians 3:16 Let the Word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritualsongs
singing with grace in your hearts to the
Lord. [00:43] tonight we must ask ourselves a question [00:44] are we going to be foolish like the man in our story
[00:44] and give out knowledge without wisdom [00:45] are we going to be like the monkey and use our other
spirituals gifts without wisdom so it will cost another a great price [00:45] what is our answer going to be [00:46] the body of Christ in these last days needs those with the
gift of wisdom to start flowing in it
[00:46] for we need the wisdom if we are going to go out into
today's world and do the work of God
[00:47] wisdom is the key to open the gift of knowledge just as
faith is the foundation that all the gifts are built on [00:48] Wisdom where are you today [00:48] for without it we can not keep the enemy a bay [00:49] let us all earnestly pay for the gift of wisdom to flow in
our lives today
[00:50] pray for the gift [00:50] and so we now close with the study of the gift of
wisdom
